Religious Privileges and God’s Judgement

Religious Privileges and God’s Judgement

Romans 3:1-8 In Romans 1 and 2, Apostle Paul has clearly informed us that Jews and Gentiles stand on the same level ground before God- All have sinned and need the gospel and forgiveness of God. They all need the savior! Paul had earlier stated that if the Jew is obedient to the law, his Jewishness and circumcision can be of value and he will be justified. (Romans 2:29) Paul anticipated three issues that arises from his arguments:

What advantage in religious privileges? Romans 3:1-2 “What advantage(privileges), then is there in circumcision?” Trustees of the Oracles of God Response: Much in every way! So many benefits, but not the type that will give salvation. The Jews were entrusted with the very words of God- The Mosaic(Old Testament) Law covenant More privileges are contained in Romans 9:4-5 Remarks:

To be entrusted with the words of Go’s is a sacred privilege. This is because we are entrusted with something of eternal value. The trust makes us trustees and messengers of God to the lost world. (Deuteronomy 4:8) This privilege must not be treated lightly. Since we have these sacred privileges our responsibility is greater. We have a responsibility to study the word and know its sacred contents (2 Timothy 2:15, 2 Timothy 3:15) We also have the responsibility to teach others the Bible. Do we have the duty to obey and follow its sacred teachings(Luke 11:28)

What advantage in being a godly Christian?
-Going to church enables you to expose yourself to biblical truth
-Keeping company with Christians helps you to see what it means to be light and salt in a godless world
-The sacraments we partake in reminds us of Jesus’ death and resurrection and the hope to see him when he comes back to earth.
-Those who have this hope live in purity 1 John 3:2-4 God’s faithfulness unaffected by human faithlessness(Romans 3:3-4) The fact that Jewish people did not believe in the promises of God or were unfaithful will not cancel God’s faithfulness and His promises. The word of God is true whether people believe it or not (Psalm 119:89).

Skeptics may try to argue against the Bible, judge the Christian faith unfavorably because of the conduct of those who profess to be guided by it. But let the Bible and the Christian faith be examined by its own teachings and spirit( 1 Corinthians 1:18)

God’s judgment is not affected by the outcome of human sin(Romans 3: 5-6) God will judge the sinner irrespective of whether such sin enhances God’s righteousness, his truthfulness, and increases his glory. We should not commit a sin so that good may proceed from it. God is righteous and holy and will judge sin whether it may be found.
-Remark You will not be justified by using a sinful means to achieve a good purpose. Do not steal or defraud and give a substantial part of the proceed to charity or offering in church. (Romans 3:8)
